As a Local Architectural Designer, 3D Visual Artist, and "self anointed Steward of the Environment" in Roswell Georgia, I feel it is my obligation as a good citizen to lend some Healthy Holistic Design Solutions to my local government regarding the future Sustainability of our City. Trained in Architecture, and Experienced in Ecology, I wouldn't miss a chance to help direct our City to a GREENER Cleaner Future.
Roswell Georgia has so many treasures, including: the Park Systems, Schools, River / Waterways, Close Proximaty to Atlanta, and Historical Sites. Tonight I was at the 3rd MEETING regarding the 2030 Comprehensive Plan. There was a ton of information to soak up, in regard to the workings of the City, and to understand and wrap your mind around all the issues at hand. The City of Roswell Georgia has MAPS of different scales and of multiple regions and districts. Diagrammatic maps demonstrating proposed transportation and bike routes, development zones, and aerial views all scatter throughout the presentation hall. There are so many things to talk about that are prevalent in what we choose to do as a community. Let me narrow down the range to what I spoke about tonight:
1. Preservation of Natural habitats, encouraging the City of Roswell to buy land to set aside as a Public Amenity to keep as a Natural "Undisturbed Unspoiled Site". Several Locations were suggested (a nice 7 acre property stood out as prime, and was labeled as such).
2. Connection and Creation of Greenways, I spoke to several City Council Members, and members of the local community regarding the need to allow the Natural Biodiversity an opportunity to migrate and occupy a portion of Undisturbed "Natural" landscape. A chain or "GREENWAY" of such passive green recreational and preservation land use could connect all the Cities across the Nation, allows a healthy balance of ecology, and society. Walking trails would promotes human activity and good health, while lowering pollution due to fossil-fuel vehicles.
3. Implement Renewable Technologies, including Photovoltaic Panels & Water Catchment Cistern. The Native Americans used the Sun, Wind, and Rain - why can't we? Well, I am pushing to change that - Photovoltaic Panels, Wind Turbines, and Water Catchment Cisterns. --- Smart Healthy Design is no accident.
4. Transportation, Sidewalks, and Bike Routes, need to be embraced.
This was my second 2030 Roswell Comprehensive Plan Meeting, and I have been studying Roswell for 3 years now, including the Municipal Water systems & Natural Wetlands. The Chattahoochee River basin is the heart of our small City - " PROTECT THE RIVER TO PROTECT LIFE ! "

Some of the Highlights tonight included hearing some distinct vantage points, coming as far away as Kenya Africa & Asia. Other Highlights included sharing some green Perspectives and Possibilities about Preservation and Conservation with City Council Member Rich Dippolito. Councilman Dippolito was very receptive to my concerns about the POTENTIAL for Roswell to become a depleted and "spoiled" ecosystem. As I noted the current Extreme Disproportion of National Park/Preservation Acreage to
Developed Acreage, both the surrounding Council members and local residents could not help but realize a very REAL NEED for Forests to produce air, Swampland to clean water, and conservation/preservation efforts to be MAXIMIZED in the next 20 years. Further, having an opportunity to discuss alternatives to the "1 Story Light Industrial Facilities" (Warehouses) that SPRAWL across our City with Council Member Jerry Orlans was a refreshing moment for me to share some of my past Architectural Experiences (the one where I Produced LEED Certified Warehouses & Distribution Facilities). We discussed going UP instead of going out, and debated the possibilities of a Mix-Use Commercial, Residential, and Light Industrial intermingling ZONING. All in All, it was a productive discussion, opening my eyes to even more considerations and potentials.

The Next Community Meeting is on March 12th at the Roswell City Hall (9am-noon). I look forward to seeing all the Local Faces, and Hearing all the Local Voices of Roswell Georgia share in the DIRECTION of their FUTURE.
